Rosemarie (Michaud) Lownds, 88, of Suffield, died peacefully on March 1, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas E. Lownds, shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary. Rosemarie was born on January 1, 1930 in Fort Kent, ME, daughter of the late Oram E. and Levenie (Nadeau) Michaud. She grew up in Fort Kent, and moved to Hartford, CT in her teens. She was a graduate of Weaver High School, class of 1947. A resident of Suffield since 1956, she was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church. Her career began with CT Mutual Insurance Co, then she spent many years as the registrar at Suffield Academy, went back to school at the dawn of the computer age to receive her certificate from Computer Processing Institute, and returned to work at CT Mutual until her retirement. During those years, she also worked alongside her husband Tom running Suffield Nursery, and selling blueberries on Hill Street (Hill Street Blues). Post retirement, she took up chair caning, and ran a business out of her barn, caning and refurbishing chairs. Her talents also included, sewing and knitting most all her daughters and her own clothes during her younger years. Rosemarie was always active. She was a life-long dedicated lap swimmer at the YMCA - even into her 80’s. She also belonged to a bowling league both in her working years, and in retirement. She and Tom participated in round dancing for many years. She was an avid reader, loved cross-word puzzles, Scrabble, and card games. In her spare time, she also plunged into genealogy, compiling volumes of historical family data. Rosemarie leaves her three daughters, Cynthia Roys and husband Steven, of Winsted; Kathryn Lownds-Reynolds and husband Robert Reynolds of Londonderry, NH; and Audrey Miller and husband Gary of Granville, MA; her much-loved grandchildren Nadya Roys, Katerina Roys, Natalie (Roys) McCaw, Neil Reynolds, Gregery Miller, Jessica Miller, and Jason Miller; and three great-grandchildren Sierra McCaw, Charles McCaw, and Leanna Rosemarie Mottern. She is also survived by her beloved sister Loretta Cantwell of Encino, CA. She was preceded in death by her brothers Maurice, Emile, Roland and Roger Michaud. The family would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful care givers at McLean Hospice, Cherry Brook Health Care Center, and River Ridge at Avon for their dedicated care over the past years. Her family will receive friends Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East Street N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2018 , 10:00 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield.
