Robert J. Machernis, 52, of Enfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2016. Born in Hartford to the late Edward and Aniela (Chrostowski) Machernis, he lived most of his life in Windsor and has been an Enfield resident for the last few years. Robert was a past member of St. Gabriel Church in Windsor and a graduate of Windsor High School. He was an accomplished ceramics artist and enjoyed music, fishing and camping. Robert was always very generous with his time helping friends with anything they might need. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Robert is survived by his brothers, Dr. Edward Machernis and his wife Melissa of Warren, NJ, Michael Machernis of Montclair, NJ, and Steven Machernis and his wife Terese of Plymouth, MA; his sister Joanne Buchanan and her husband Keith of Plympton, MA; and eight nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 4 from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave, Poquonock. Friends and family may gather at 10 AM Thursday, January 5 at the funeral home for procession to church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Gabriel Church 379 Broad St. Windsor. Burial will follow in Palisado Cemetery, Windsor. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Enfield Food Shelf, 96 Arden Avenue, Enfield, CT 06083 or Community Health Resources, 153 Hazard Avenue, Enfield, CT 06082.
