HANSEN. Raymond G. Hansen, 92, of West Suffield, beloved husband of Eleanor (Keene) Hansen passed away Friday, October 6, 2017. Born February 13, 1925 in Hartford, son of the late Edward and Gertrude (Gutenkenst) Hansen, he lived in Bloomfield where he raised his family before retiring to Sebring, FL and he would return to Connecticut in 2007 and settled in West Suffield. Raymond was drafted into service during WWII serving with the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist mate (Medic) and was attached to the 5th Marine Division and was on the first wave to land on Iwo Jima. Following the war, he met his wife Eleanor and built their house in Bloomfield. He worked as a mason until his retirement. Ray and Eleanor then set out to see the country before settling in Sebring, FL. He was a life member of the Blue Hills Volunteer Fire Department in Bloomfield; retiring as an Assistant Chief. Besides his wife Eleanor of 70 years, he is survived by his six children, James Hansen of South Windsor, Raymond Hansen, Jr. (Sandy Giamalis) of East Hampton, Joanne Hansen of Winsted, William Hansen (Joslyn) of West Suffield, Joseph Hansen of Farmington, NY, Theodore Hansen (Jennifer) of West Suffield; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his six brothers, Edward, Thomas, William, John, Howard, and Donald Hansen. His family will receive friends Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 2-4 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at the convenience of his family in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 642, Suffield, CT 06078.
