ELLIS. Donald M. Ellis, Sr., 78, of Enfield, beloved husband of the late Sally Jo (Harrington) Ellis, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born August 20, 1938 in Rockville, CT son of the late Ronald and Helen (Schweitzer) Ellis. Don grew up in East Windsor before moving to Enfield in 54 years ago. Don served his nation honorably with the 103rd Fighter Wing, Connecticut Air National Guard. He was employed by Sun Oil Company as a maintenance mechanic before retiring in 1998. Don took great pride in his long association with the Enfield Fire Department where he served as a firefighter and commissioner. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, NASCAR, UCONN Basketball, his golden retrievers, and most of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Don is survived by his children, Donald M. Ellis, Jr. and his wife, Jan, Debbie A. Chapin and her husband, Paul, Lisa M. Ellis, Scott M. Ellis and his wife, Patricia all of Enfield; three brothers, Richard Ellis of East Windsor who was his best friend and "partner in crime", Kenneth Ellis of Windsor Locks, David Ellis of East Windsor; a sister, Susan Burns of East Windsor; his grandchildren, Christopher Ellis and his wife, Rebecca, Kyle Chapin and his wife, Marisa, Derek Chapin and his fiancé, Lilly, Ryan Chapin and his girlfriend Haley, Matthew, Anna Renee, Kyle, Kaylene, Gage, Seamus and Maeve and his great grandchildren, Jayden and Tegan. Don was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald and James; and his sisters, Shirley and Carolyn. Don leaves his many neighbors with whom he shared special relationships and whose compassion and caring over the years has been greatly appreciated by his family. His family wishes to thank the staff at St. Francis Hospital & Hospice for the wonderful care given to Don. His family will receive friends Friday, March 17, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017, 10:00 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Enfield.
