HOLYOKE
Adelle (Wojcik) Zwirko, Mom, Gram, Babci, 96, daughter of Franciszek and Zofia (Kielijan) Wojcik died on February 10, 1017 at Baystate Medical Center after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband of over 52 years, Albert J. Zwirko who died in 1996. Adelle was born in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School. She was employed as the secretary at Strick Dress Co and later at the Holyoke School Dept. as school secretary at South Chestnut, Elmwood, McMahon and Holyoke High schools. Adelle is survived by her children Christine Leary (George), Jan Zwirko (Janet McMillan), and grandchildren Jennifer Kmetz (Gary), Staci Hastey (Paul), Jill Tellier (Mark) and Patrick Leary (Lisa.) Also eight of the "smartest, best looking" great grandchildren Jack and Noah Hastey, Molly, Packie, Ryan and Morgan Leary, Chloe and Ava Tellier, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is survived by her sister-in-law Evelyn Zwirko. She is predeceased by siblings Mary Pronowicz (Louis), Frances Socha (Stanley), Stacia Gazda (Walter), Edwin Wojcik (Millie) and Benjamin Wojcik (Doris). She was a lifelong communicant of Mater Dolorosa Church and a member of the Polish Women's Alliance Group 141 where she served as the Financial Secretary. She was also a member of the Rosary Society and the Jewish Seniors exercise group. She was very proud of her Polish heritage. She lived in Ward 4 across from MD church where she was baptized, married and continued to worship as an active member of the parish community. Her faith was important to her, she loved attending Mass, saying her daily prayers and reciting the rosary. She observed the Polish customs and traditions of Wiligia and the blessing of food. She enjoyed the MD bazaar where she volunteered for many years and was able to attend on her 95th birthday. Adelle enjoyed time with her family, loved a party and looked forward to every birthday and holiday celebration. She also enjoyed bus trips to casinos near and far, in fact, she and her husband organized many such trips. For the past ten years she has resided at Loomis House in Holyoke which she referred to as "the Hilton" where she enjoyed good food and excellent care. She was a prominent member of the Residents' Council, attended almost all the activities and went on every trip she could. Her favorite trip was to the Big E where she enjoyed the lobster roll and cream puff. She always said how much she missed her car but scooted around Loomis in her motorized wheel chair. Her family is very grateful to the entire staff at Loomis for all their care and kindnesses. The Funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m in the Celebration Center at Jericho, 537 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will be held at a later date in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of the Cross Church, 23 Sycamore St. Holyoke or Loomis House Residents Activity Fund at 298 Jarvis Ave, Holyoke, MA 01040.
